Gentlemen, Ladies, rebuttals? -- Let us think on this for a bit... Larry says Jet Fins are "death seeking behavior". Well, they`ve been around for a long time, sold a zillion sets, and Scuba Pro has yet to lose a wrongful death lawsuit over them, or issue a product recall. They work extraordinarly well, are simple, strong, and cheap ($60 - 70.00 retail locally). They ARE heavy, and the foot pocket works best on a diver with rectangular feet, but overall a good fin. Then Larry recommends Power Plana Avanti on the basis of hordes of "diving kinesiologists" recommendations. This is a nice-kicking fin, but in my limited experience with them I've seen one pair returned with a broken plastic rib, and seen that silly cam attachment buckle release itself on a bit of kelp, an anchor line and simply from the force of water in a high giant stride entry. Also they're about twice the price of the Jet Fin ($130). On the up side, their foot pocket is shaped better, and they're lighter. I'm not even sure what a "diving kinesiologist" is (maybe a new PADI specialty) but if they go around pinning themselves to wrecks via holes in their fins I don't wanna dive with them. I can't claim a Phd, but 34 years of diving, 19 of instructing, and almost a thousand cert's issued without an accident count for something. Until I hear more, I'll continue to recommend the Jet Fin, even though the Avanti has a better margin. Gerry -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
