Went on a "new gear" (single tank hogarthian back plate, harness, etc.) check out dive this past Wednesday off the coast of Santa Barbara CA, actually Santa Cruz Island, in 65 degree water with no current. Turns out that I need 16lbs of lead with 1/4 Wetsuit and a steel 95. Arnold at AUL thinks my (new) Super 300 video lights will each be 4-5 lbs negative, for a total of 10 lbs. If true, I should be able to drop 10 lbs of lead when diving a steel 95 with two of the AUL Super 300 lights. He is not sure exactly how negative each canister will be, but he is sure the batteries in a canister will be 18 lbs each and the dimentions of a canister will be 14" (T) tall and 6 " (OD) in diameter. If I knew how much sea water weighed per cubic inch (or per cubic foot, or meter), I think I could calculate how negative each canister will be. Anybody know how much sea water weighs per cubic inch? Also, if 16 lbs is correct for me when wearing a steel 95, I have heard that I should add 4-6 lbs with an Alum 80? Is this a good rule of thumb? Lastly, -- Regards, Peter A.
