I just heard about this list and after reading the archives I'm very interested in following along. It looks like the bulk of the traffic is deep/mixed air diving, but I've got other interests that I would consider technical as opposed to recreational. I am a Public Safety Scuba Instructor and work with a Dive Rescue Team in Boulder, Colorado, USA. I am particularly interested in issues like altitude diving (we use the '86 Beuhlman tables), wreck diving, and tactical response (ie. rappel/helicopter insertion, vehicle extrication/recovery, etc). It's all high altitude, cold water (often ice covered), limited to zero visibility stuff. I'm very team oriented in operations, but Dive Rescue is all done solo (usually tethered). I've done decompression diving (deepest was 150' at 8,500' altitude) but don't do much as a rule. I use some specialized equipment (hardwire underwater communications, metal detectors, lift bags, etc.) but generally just do your basic dry-suit dives on air. I've been on operations including body recoveries, underwater investigation and evidence search (like guns and bombs), and was involved in a helicopter/body recovery at 120'/8200' alt., but the majority of my work is recovering stolen vehicles ditched in a lake or responding to surface water rescues. I'd love to connect up with other dive rescue teams (if you are quietly watching out there) or divers involved with tactical response (little time to plan - just jump in and do it!).
