I subscribe to this list with the intention of gathering useful information
from the "experts" in the diving community and to learn from their
experiences and perhaps even their mistakes in hopes of improving my own
diving and making it as safe and enjoyable as possible. I think that
Mike's assessment of "George and his crew" (AKA WKPP) is way off base. 99%
of the information that I have gathered from this list and consider to be
valuable and worthwhile has come from the postings made by the WKPP people.
I think that the advice and opinions they give regarding equipment,
technique, etc are based on experience and backed up with research. This
is the type of information that I find valuable. As far as the flames are
concerned, I think that it boils down to being able to separate the wheat
from the chaff. If you really think about it, you can determine if a
message is useful by either the title or the first few lines. To me that
equates to about 1.5 seconds per message. If the message is one that I
deem to be useless I delete it - very simple. And to those of us out there
seeking advice on purchasing new equipment ask yourselves how much money
they have saved us by providing equipment advice and steering us clear of
the useless, and not to mention expensive, crap that our local dive shop
would have us have collecting dust in our closets.

In summary:

I value the opinions and the contributions of the WKPP. If I don't find a
message to be useful - I delete it.

Sorry for the rant . . .
