Don,

If you look at the heliox tables you will see one answer. Decompression =
times for heliox are much, much longer than for Nitrox. On some profiles =
you will die of old age decompressing.

If high nitrogen partial pressures are so damaging (and I have no reason =
to
doubt they are), why not run with a zero nitrogen partial pressure, i.e.
heliox, hydrox or hydreliox? It would be more expensive, but for people
that are mixing their own gases it should not be technically difficult.
Hydrogen of course would need special handling procedures. Why not move =
up
to the next level and eliminate that nasty old nitrogen once and for =
all?
This is a serious question.
