Chuck, I read in a George Irvine post, concerning methods and procedures used by the WKPP that they mix their trimix for <=1.4 PPO2, and <=130' EAD. Seems to me, a large percentage of nitrox dives probably exceed this PPO2, and any deep air dive would certainly exceed both. Or were you implying OTU type exposure, as during a stupid long dive and deco that these guys do every weekend? I'm asking this cuz it seems to me that trimix offers a distinct advantage over plain air or enriched air - addition of the third gas with narcotic properties a mere fraction of that of nitrogen, (and no one has yet defined or quantified the narcotic properties (if any) of oxygen. (Although I keep seeing a post from Dr. "Harris" Taylor run through my mind...) in that you can tweak 3 variables to get a desirable valuable for 2 of them, vice dealing with the trade off inherent to using nitrox. - to limit your PO2, you gotta breathe more N2, and most entry level nitrox breathers seem to have a hard time accepting the fact that nitrogen poses far less risk than prolonged exposure to O2. They don't teach CNS clocks in Open Water school.... Drew -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
