Roger, As in life, there are often more than one opinion. Dr. Guyton states in his "Textbook of Medical Physiology" that supplimental CO2 is beneficial in speeding up the elimination of CO, but Mountcastle makes just the opposite point. Probably has to do with how badly you are poisoned, with mild cases responding well to supplimental CO2 (not only acts as a vasodilator but also as a respiratory stimulent.) However, in a patient who is already maximally stimulated via hypoxia, the addition of CO2 might be contraindicated. John Submariner Research, Ltd. (johncrea@de*.co*)
