The steam engine/space shuttle metaphore might backfire,
A (piston) steam engine is an inefficient but remarkably simple and cheap d=
evice that runs on anything from household garbage to plutonium. It's easy =
to service and maintain and if a better model comes on the market you can b=
uy a new one without going bankrupt.
Finally, to this date, the space shuttle has killed 5 (10 ?) percent of all=
its passengers.
(This is in no way a denounciation of rebreathers in general which I think =
is an exciting and promising technology, I just could not resist commenting=
on the metaphor)
