Sorry to bring up the Viton/Buna issue again, but.... Does anyone know the problem with using buna O-rings with high O2 concentrations? I know they're incompatible and it causes breakdown of the oring over time, but what is the mechanism? Is it chemical action? Perhaps oxidation of the oring? Someone once told me that the problem is kind of like DCS in the oring. The story was that the ring absorbs O2, which comes later forms bubble when you reduce ambient pressure. Enough bubbles and the Oring is destroyed. Supposedly Viton absorbs less O2. Anybody know the answer?
