Along with Reinhard's reminders of things so obvious we all forget or
don't think about it, would be a visit to your local backpackers supplier.
I'm NOT taking about a general sports equipment "super store" that carry a
few backpacks, but a dedicated shop that caters to real hardcore, "get lost
in the wilderness for a week" backpackers, rock climbers and kyakers.

These guys have somewhat similar insulation problems and carry the
thinsulate/caprelene/polyprop underwear mentioned above, at prices
significantly less than typical dive shops. Much of their stuff is not
applicable to diving, but much is. They carry all sorts of weights and
materials in socks, gloves, hoods, etc. suitable for use under drysuits.

They also carry assorted sized bungies, grommet kits and hardware, sized
perfectly for those assembling backplate harnesses (they think they're for
repairing tents and backpacks...the fools! <g>)

It's worth checking one out.
