Alright, I tried to be civilized and expected some flak, but where do you
draw the line for the "target audience of the techdiver mailing list"
anyway? Is this a super-elite list for those who have laid or seen the
end of the line in one of Wakulla or Leon's tunnels? Is it only for the
trimix divers? I would never have *heard* of backplates/wings on the
"neophyte" rec.scuba forum, so where am I supposed to go for information?
My peter-puffing fudge-packing PADI instructor? I don't think so. I am
not contemplating cave diving, nor wreck penetration, else I *would* have
the proper configuration. That was *not* the point of my question. I've
read rec.scuba and SCUBA-L listserv for years but I've grown up. I don't
claim to "belong" here as far as dishing out advice to techdivers, but I
do wish to listen and learn, not be jumped on for asking a question, or
questioning an answer. I never claimed to know jack shit on this list
because I probably don't; but it's not like I asked "which side of the
mask does the snorkle go on?" either. Give me a break. I should at least
qualify as a "pledge" to this fraternity. Is your reponse part of the
hazing ritual?

George is an invaluable resource in this forum and I have no issues with
his viewpoints (which are from experience) although his delivery could
be polished a bit; but in hindsight, I don't recall George ever jumping
on me to the extent that you have, and when he does jump on someone in
his classic form it's usually on someone "preaching the gospel" like they
know everything but preach the wrong sermon. I don't recall making a
sermon, I initially questioned an answer (Is Hogarthian the One True Way
for even rec diving) and then asked a question (Can Hogarthian be rigged
for rec diving). I never said it was bad/wrong/stupid/etc, I wanted more
information. Others have provided it (thanks to you that replied); you
want to make an issue of my "ignorance". Kick a man when he's down. Bet
you're a great dive buddy.

You are taking this out of context. My computer example was "if I could
have whatever I wanted, I'd want [this great system]". Similarly, if I
wanted a car, I'd have a Ferrari or Lambourghini or a Lotus, but it
doesn't affect me getting to work (well, maybe time-wise, assuming the
absence of police). I wouldn't take a Ferrari out 4-wheeling in the woods,
that's a <insert your favorite George adjective here> idea.

Please, let's not start a war; I'm sure you can likely dive circles around
me so let me admit it before you tell the world. It is the sheer fact
that you likely "can" dive circles around me that I asked for advice here.
Do you really want me to go to rec.scuba for advice? I would hope not.
The question doesn't belong on rec.scuba, else I'd end up with a TransPac,
Black Diamond, Ranger, or some other expensive piece'o'shit. I don't care
if you don't want to help me out here, just don't beat me over the head
for asking. And from my post you quoted...

...let me state I'm not in that 90(99)%. And further...

This should have shot your "Holiday Inn parachute" theory all to hell.
I never hinted as mismatched gear/environment configurations.

I think you may have misread/misunderstood my original posting and hope
that this was just a big misunderstanding. I'd like to let this quietly
die and you guys continue the dive discussions and/or flame wars.
