Several of the deep ocean high wattage lights use aluminum as the housing material for two reasons: The alumium material can withstand greater depths than a plastic counterpart (see previous post), and the aluminum is a better thermal conductor for removing heat from the lamp head (big consideration). Still not advocating making an aluminum light head for tech-diving shallow depths though. The depth rating of a mag light is immaterial and doesn't warrant discussion.
