Reprinted from Jan 1997 Florida Scuba News: By federal policy, oxygen is still available without a prescription, this after a 10 year reconsideration of the issue. At the state level as of July 1, the Florida Department of health and rehabilitavtive services reconqnized certified scuba divers as "authorized recipients" of emergency oxygen. This allows divers in Florida to purchase emergency oxygen delivery equipent and medical grade oxygen. Previously, medical oxygen could be purchased in Florida only by prescription. The FDA policy, along with the recent change in Florida, constitute some of the most important rulings affecting diver safety in many years. Using emergency oxygen shortly after a decompression injury can significantly improve a diver's chance for full recovery. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just a quick tid-bit for thought.
