Just how quickly *does* a manifold transfer gas from one side to the 
other?  I know it's not entirely unrestricted, but to accomodate a fill 
it's got to be faster than the rate which would be optimal for safety 
(which I suspect is half your rate of consumption under stress at max 
depth plus an ample fudge factor).
