To start with you shouldn't penetrate without knowing the outside of a wreck, that way once out even if not the hole you crawled into, you can find the anchor line. Then you penetrate only as far as you can see out and keep track of things like bulkheads or doorways or anything that you can recognize as the way out. Then as you learn the area you want to penetrate you can go progessively deeper into the wreck, learning each new area before moving on. That is only one way, but it works for me.
