Just a quick point (I realize that Alan's query is meant for Greg Ryan in
Australia):  Having dry caving experience before taking a sump diving
course is probably a sound/safe approach.  How else would the sump diving 
student/diver know how to deal with the dry caving environment and its 
hazards?

Perhaps a public forum is not the place to discuss these types of issues.

In fairness to Mr Palmer, I believe he is still active with IANTD, as well
as other organizations.  In fact, he may be down at UNEXSO teaching an IANTD 
course right now.
