Bill, thanks. While some of the horrible stuff is in fun, and while I get blamed for all of it, even though I do mine with my own name, other than the funny stuff, when I see people setting themselves up as "experts", and then trying to promote dangerous gear and practices, I think the best thing is to completely hammer them senseless. If they just habve a stupid idea, well we can just discuss it, but you will see the distinction in my responses. For example, we have guys in cave diving who start out buy saying they have done this for ten years, and then quote a bunch of bogus statistical analysis ( like , nobody ever drowned because of the hose ", etc, when it is the whole sloppy concept that caused the accident, not just one thing), and then they try to discredit me, when all I claim is the end of the line, not the invention of diving, and all I claim is to try and do it right, not perfection - they are trying to settle for less and get me to say it is ok to satisfy some other agenda. Most cave divers of the old crowd are just dumb old red necks - no big deal, they are being phased out anyway. The tech community is what scares me, as there is still enough bullshit out there to kill, and I hope by getting in a few faces I can help the ones who will be helped, and cause the others to become apparent powers of example. It is so easy and fun when you do it properly. - G On Wed, 01 Jan 1997, Bill Elliott <bill@nw*.co*> wrote: > >George, > > Everytime I think you have finally gone over the top, something shows me >that you really only pontificate because you believe it, not just because >you have rotten social skills and like to pound on people. > > This morning I put on "Doing it right" again, and I could hear it in your >voice.
