Joe, excellent story on the quarry and the wreck accidents - this is great
information, and exactly what people need to hear, as opposed to the macho know
it all crap we get from the crews of eh New England dive boats - Wezel is a
mate
on one of them - anybody suprised. The more these stopkes run their mouths, the
more my recommendation of hiring a real boat loks pretty smart, and the more
the
concept of not violating rule number one is again and again proven to be sound
advice. Unlike you, I see no reason to be polite about it, but your stories
make
great reading, including your sump diving stories.

Almost all of my personal air shares have been wreck diving and the out of air
divers were not even on the same boat I was on, and in all cases they were
inside the wrecks and needed the hose to pass through to opoen water.

Some of our own (s. florida) worst horror stories involved not being able to
rescue trapped divers from wrecks due to the gear configuration of both the
victim and the person attempting the rescue - all know it alls as well, and
almost always involving dive boat crews.

Crews need to know that newer divers are looking to them for information,
and
the pros need to point out a stroke when they see one - I always do. Just to
refresh everyone's memory , a stroke is somebady whose attitude is "me and only
me,", and who has no clue (that is how they got the attitude), and they will
usually be deep air diving, pontificating wizzards of bullshit. What they are
telegraphing with this attitude is that they are actually hoffified weenies who
would not help you with any amount of hose, and whose personal phobias,
stuidity, and lack of skill dictate their actions - Rule Number One - don't
dive
with strokes. The bullshit gear is your fisrt warning sign. In cave diving,
this
is a foolproof indicator, and has saved many lives of those who heed it.
