The official Doing it Right web page is nearing completion. This page features the famed video "Doing it Right" in HTML format, as presented by George Irvine of the WKPP. The community response to this video has been enormous, however it is hoped that the establishment of an internet site will provide easier and more widespread access to this information. The web page will be kept current, and will hopefully address some of the more frequently asked questions that may not be immediately apparent from the video. I am attempting to fill some of the gaps left by the video, specifically for the cold water guys, including the proper rigging of ScubaPro 1st stages, full-face masks as primaries, etc. This page will also hopefully minimize the number of questions posted to techdiver by new subscribers, or by those who cannot access the archives. As it stands, the page incorporates the doing it right video, which essentially outlines the correct method to rig gear, and a separate section addressing the gear itself, outlining the desirable features in any specific piece of equipment. Thumbnail images are utilized, which link to full size graphics. I now wish to put a question out to the diving community... It has been suggested to include a photograph of a fully rigged diver (two orthographic views), and have a point and click interface on any specific part/piece of equipment. This would link to a paragraph including both equipment choice criteria and proper rigging. This would be somewhat redundant to the video section, but might provide a more intuitive interface. The question being: WHAT WOULD YOU PREFER AS A FORMAT FOR PRESENTING THIS INFORMATION? Depending on the responses I receive, I will alter the HTML code accordingly. This page, as it now stands, will probably be ready for public consumption by the end of December (Jan. 1, 1997, just to be dramatic). Longer if it gets fancy. Working, full-time studies and diving leave little time left for rampant technophilia. COST: After intense consideration, it was decided that this page would be presented freely as a service to the diving community. It is hoped that this information will reach as many people as possible, inevitably preventing unnecessary accidents in the process. I do not wish, however, to discount the time and effort that the WKPP expended in producing the Doing it Right video. As I mentioned previously, this video has come to be known as the best resource currently available for technical diving safety information. I therefore am requesting that visitors to the site forward a (yet to be determined) donation to the WKPP. Mailing information will be included on the page. Thank you all for reading this. I don't wish to clutter the lists, but as this is to be a resource for divers, created by divers, I felt it necessary to get as much input as possible. Once again, any further suggestions or comments are welcomed. -Sean T. Stevenson ststev@uv*.ca*
