all on the list

I enjoyed JJ's comments and I was surprised that some evidently hold
him responsible for George, wow, Would they expect him to make the
water part in the red sea that is about the power it would take to
control George

He did make a good comment that all should listen to: the right of
choice and in all my arguments with George that has been the underlying
issue ,
Provided an individual is given sufficient information they have the
right to make an informed decision on what is best for them. I think
that is a important part of the freedom we enjoy and I object when
someone limits that freedom.

I enjoy Georges input and have incorporated some of his ideas into
what I do,(I even had him put a backplate together for me) just as I
have incorporated things from others I see who have a better idea or
method for a given situation.

To me, Bill Gavin stated it correctly years ago in the simple
statement:
    "ALWAYS SEEK PERFECTION"
To do this means have an open mind and evaluate those things best
suited to your needs not necessarily those of mine or Georges or any
other single person or group(WKPP, IANTD.NSS CDS, NACD etc.) educators
provide information, being educated is using that information in the
best possible manner for the person /society

I have been doing cave and technical diving since 1962, I was one of
the first to teach it and was privileged to be a founder of NACD as
well as the tek portions of IANTD.

In all these years the community has always existed in moderate peace.
Yes there have been philosophy disagreements and debates even heated
arguments, But throughout all this it has been open and respectful of
each other. A combination of Honor(combined with a degree of humility)
and dignity always prevailed.

Many of the recent discussions show no respect , people even demean
those they have never met, have not seen in the water and have no
earthly idea of their abilities or knowledge, do not even really know
their opinions on issues, In addition some even go on to attack the
parentage of people they do not know. To me this not only reflects a
like of respect to the person, the community and the image of our
sport. It also shows a complete like of self respect combined with no
sense of honor and dignity, as one who respects them selves is not
capable of such foul personal attacks(because someone does not agree
with your personal opinions, does not make then evil , overweight or a
stroke nor does it mean their family heritage is questionable as a
recent attack by Alex on someone alluded to) as witnessed on these
forums and the net.

What ever happened to a little sense of respect, honor and self esteem.
I question how many of these folks putting out trash to others would do
so in a face to face situation. I know from the school I was brought up
in that would not be a prudent thing to do. More importantly I wonder
how many of these folks who trash each other would actually like each
other in person and even enjoy diving together. Unfortunately the type
behavior they present on the net will prevent many poentential good
frienships and enjoyable dive partners.

Why can't we agree to disagree as gentlemen or even warriors(meaning in
an honorable way not kicking ass) instead of as a bunch of gossiping
fools. Who knows maybe then we could have input from some of the more
polite people such as JJ. Also probably the good messages that are made
here and on the net would be better received by all who participate on
these list. These list should be a key element for furthering
education, it is after all why most people originally subscribe to
them, the list certainly have the potential to fill that need.
As an added thought think how many more friendships we may form rather
than determinations to avoid each other.

Respectfully
Tom Mount
