Peter -

Monterey isn't particularly well known for GWS attacks even though
there have been documented incidents. The area we worry most about
starts at Ano Nuevo in the south (about 15 miles north of Santa
Cruz) and ends at Tomalles Bay in the north. It's bounded by
the Farallon Islands to the west, forming the 'bloody triangle'.
This area is coincidently the puping grounds for the Stellar
Sea Lion and Elephant Seal. Tomallas Bay (and the SF Bay) are
thought to be breeding grounds for the shark.

Still, how could you agree about hammerheads and still wonder about
Monterey? I'm sure hammerheads can be nasty, but they aren't 25 feet
long and they don't eat automobile parts because they 'just got too
excited and lost their heads'. You really don't want to mess with a
great white. They're known for eating things that look interesting
and then deciding after the fact that they weren't on the menu.

I sure as heck don't use a scooter in Monterey and I don't think I
ever will.

Scott.
