While I am fairly well apprised of the outward manifestations of strokery as defined here in this most astute of institutions, (the illustrious and very serious TechDiver list), I must admit that I have not been on the list long enough to know the etymology of the word as used here. I feel that in the interest of a deeper, more immediate feel for this oft used word, the roots of it's meanings are probably neccessary. Now I have no doubt, or very little doubt anyway, that the origins of this word "stroke" were the creative genius of one of the members of this very list! But since I can't be sure, and I am a bit impatient right now, I thought I would offer up my guesses to the Techdiver gods (you know who you are) as to the origins of the word. So here goes. 1) It could be releated to the medical term stroke since a diver using non-Georgarthian gear and wisdom would likely suffer a lack of 02 to the brain. 2) It could be related to the medical term stroke since a diver using non-Georgarthian gear and widom would likely cause gmiiiii to suffer a lack of 02 to the brain upon George's sighting of him. 3) It could be that anyone who dives with bondage wings or 2 short hoses, stuffed hoses, or their personal hose tapped to their neck seal on their dry suit, usually spends a lot of time in the John "strokin" their hose. 4) Stroke is often used in conjuction with words like Genius, as in "Stroke of Genius" or "Stroke the ball", but there are no obvious connotations with either of these and stupid diving practices, so there would seem to be no likely relationship. Although, one might justifibly wonder, if a diver thought they were exceptionally bright in terms of correct diving, but in fact were not, perhaps they could be a "Stroke of Genius", at least in their own eyes. 5) Perhaps, all "Strokes" have no Gavin scooters and must swim (read stroke) all the time just to get from one point to another while under water. Can you imagine having to swim while diving??? All of the above is obviously only a bit of guess work on my part, and I welcome other guesses. Heyydude, you have any other ideas on this??? Anyway, if one of the Techdiver gods, (or even you dude) has the real root of this word, I for one would feel a whole lot less ignorant and undoubtably more comfortable when using the word in an accusation. Thanks in advance for everyones help with this and for all the valuable contributions to this list that keep me coming back for another earful. Who says I'm not a masochist.
