I want to offer the following in corroboration (and minor amplification) of the recent posting by Rick Williams. My local dive shop received a FAX on Monday, June 27 warning of a problem with aluminum tanks manufactured by Luxfer in 1982 and 1983. It seems that the tanks are likely to develop cracks in the neck around the valve. Luxfer manufactures the vast majority of aluminum tanks sold in the United States under all brand names. They are easily identifiable because Luxfer stamps their name on the tank and the date can be identified by the initial test date stamp. All the necessary information is therefore stamped on the top of the tank. The warning applies to all sizes of aluminum tanks, but only those manufactured in the two years mentioned. Until further information becomes available, it would be highly inadvisable to fill one of these tanks. Bruce Gerhard
