Andrew- I seem to recall seeing tank valves with a built-in SPG about 20 years ago. It was just a rod inside a recess in the valve body that extended to show full, 3/4, 1/2, etc (all you really need on a Deco Bottle). I think they were made by Scubapro but they were considerably more expensive than the competition, so they weren't too popular. SPG's were pretty much in universal use by then, so most people didn't see any reason to pay extra for a gauge that was only useable before you strapped your tank on (I know I didn't). Also, at that time, you carried you pony bottle (yes, pony!) on your back, strapped between your double 72's, so you wouldn't be able to see and in-valve SPG anyway. Maybe some manufacturer should revive these things, as it would seem to be a perfect answer to this (deco SPG vs. no deco SPG) dilemma, now that we carry our *stage bottles* on the side.
