>There are times it would be nice to have a Haskel, but they awfully >expensive. >I've been toying with the notion of making a booster pump using relatively >cheap surplus hydraulic cylinders. >Has anyone tried (or heard of anyone else trying) anything similar? As a matter of fact, I have. Many years ago, an individual decided that paint compressors were too expensive. He knew what he was doing, and made one himself. Some time later, the homemade paint compressor, on which he had saved a few hundred dollars over purchase price, exploded. He did not survive the experience. I wouldn't have heard about it except the guy was the son of my old dive instructor. A lot of people in the area started paying a lot more intention to VIP, which was still a pretty new idea at the time. Moral of the story: For some things, paying a high-dollar price tag up-front may, in the long run, be the most economical way to do it. --John
