The lights use a regular 12v battery charger. It's attached in tandem for 24v systems. The charger supplied by AUL draws about 2.5 amps and is rated for US 60 cycle (Hz) operation. Tandy and many other electrical shops sell transformers that downregulate 220v to 110v. This is what I used recently on a boat in Egypt. I don't know if the unit charged more slowly, but that was my impression. The charger adapts the charging to the state of the battery and may do this based on the Hz, so in England 50Hz may slow the whole process down and so increase heat. (It's hard to judge additional heat in Egypt in the summer). I think the best bet would be to buy a 12v charger with the correct amp output in England and forgo the transformer. If any one has ideas on this, I'd like to hear them too -Peter Heseltine
