Carl, Mind if a new guy on the net jumps in? As I see it, scuba dives in the extreme ranges (350+) are basically solo dives regardless of the communications, surface based support, or presence of other divers. Suppose I'm at 900 fsw in some remote area of the world and run into trouble. Could a buddy that needs every cu.ft. of gas in his reach afford to share with me? If I'm not in an overhead enviroment, have a safety line around me and signal the surface that I'm in trouble, who can reach me in time if they could haul me up to my first deco stop at around 500 fsw. Finally, by some miracle, I reach the surface alive, but badly bent, I might be many hours or days from a chamber. Stone's fully redundant rebreathers might change things tomorrow, but today, there is little if anything these explorers can do when trouble hits. - Wayne
