Thanks to all who responded, both privately and to the list. The general concensus was that my initial theory about "indentations in the gasket" was completely wrong, and in fact I've fixed the immediate problem using the original gasket -- it looks like the leak was caused by not having the hose assembly screwed down properly. I had tightened it until it felt like about the same resistance as when I opened it, but the resistance I felt was due to a small section of the nylon shell I let cover a length of one or two of the threads on the bladder side. I felt rather silly for not noticing this sooner, but anyway the solution was to work my way around the connector, being careful to tuck all the nylon below the bottom thread. It was fine for diving this weekend. George, I'm interested in your comment about replacing the whole assembly. What works best? In previous notes I think you mentioned Sea Tec wings needed "fewer modifications". Is the hose assembly one of the modifications you alluded to? JT, as to why I took it apart... I just wanted to understand it better, and supposing it was a relatively simple piece of gear I thought just taking it apart and looking at it was the best means to that end. I still think that's true. It's safe to say the "real" problem here was that the gear's simplicity was being exceeded by my own. ;-) - Todd George Irvine responded: > > Replace the whole assembly - every bit of it. - G John Todd responded: > > if the gasket is seated and clean from debris (sediment, sand, etc) then it > should seal fine.make sure there are no nicks in the gasket.you just might > not have seated it properly when reassembling it,which leaves me to ask "why > did you take it apart?". > On Fri, 6 Sep 1996, Todd Leonard wrote: > > > On Dive-Rite Original Wings, is the gasket that forms the seal between > > the bladder and the hose assembly supposed to be replaced whenever it's > > disassembled?
