Michael, Thanks for your info. In fact the _only_ airline that asked me to pay overweight charges was British Airways. United, EgyptAir did not ask for any additional money. From London to Cairo, the world's most expensive per-mile route (?), BA waived the extra charges when I showed them that I had travelled with the same bags from the US to the UK. On the way back from Cairo to London, they asked that I either pay a charge of 1% per kilo of the first-class airfare between Cairo and London (for me about US $820) or a flat rate of US $99 for an extra piece of baggage from Cairo - London - Los Angeles. Guess which option I chose? The "per-piece" rate option exists for all journeys which include the US The only other requirment is that any stay at an intermediate stop not be more than 7 days. -ph On Sun, 11 Aug 1996, Michael S.
