For example, 190 feet is great for deco on air when you have gas on yor back and vertical relief, but it is a noghtmare way back in a siltout in a cave. We do it as follows other than the deco situation: we dive a 130 AED and a 1.4 PPO2 maximum, with reudctions in both for time and difficulty (lately I have been diving 1.0 and 100 feet, but then I am surveying and doing huge bottom times that require long deco exposures to high PPO2's) . We will use air to 150 on a "look see" situation, or even drop to 190 with vertical relief, but not intentionally plan this. Short bounce dives on air do not present huge problems, other than if the conditions are bad , but again, are not intentionally planned. Helium is an easy gas to use, and makes a huge difference in the quality of your dive experience. If I want to get high, I will do that right, too, not put on my dive gear and try to kill myself. - G George M.
