Hello All: I have an experience that has increased my respect for the handling and = use of O2. I had flooded my O2 clean first stage without knowing it, = left if for a few days, then used it to check the pressure on an 80% O2 = mix. (mold and so forth had grown on the interior of the high pressure = stage.) When I put the reg under pressure I heard a hissing sound, = thinking the O-ring had burst I left the pressure on. Until I realized = the hissing was coming from the hose. Then I turned off the pressure = and investigated. The interior of the reg was cooked! All of the rubber parts had to be = replaced including the hose. (Yes, they were O2 compatible) The hose had = pin pricks (hundreds of them.) in the first 4 inches. The second stage = appeared to be untouched, however I've replaced all the O-rings and = replaceable parts in it too, just to be safe. I can't help feeling = that this incident could have been allot worse, as I did not turn the = valve off right away. I shudder, even now, while writing this. It = happened about 6 weeks ago. Hold your flames, this is a mistake that is being presented for the = interest of those who have not gone before me, and the others who won't = admit it. Constructive criticism is always welcome. Safe diving and O2 handling. Robert Chambers Barbados West Indies.
