Some information I have received I'm first to admit is third hand. However it did come from a good source that is aquainted to the commercial dive boat operator that was at the scene at the time of the incident. This refers to the recent diver fatality on the wreck of the George Marsh,(85') in Lake Ontario near Kingston. The victum arrived at the site aboard a private boat with a small group and an instructor. The purpose of the dive was that the victum was to make an advanced diver certification dive. Agency unknown. The victums boat tied up to the Commercial dive boat already on the site. Everyone on the boat entered the water leaving no one on board the victums boat. This was the victums 7th dive, his 2nd of the Advanced Diver certification class. The attending instructor was aware that on the previouse dive the victum had had considerable bouyancy problems. However knowing this he left the group with a reel to search for lost dive gear around the peremeter of the wreck. The victum had a dive computer, the downloaded info from the computer revealed that his profile was eractic, rapid assents and decents of up to 10 ft of variation. Possibly indicating bouyancy problems. Then from a depth of about 40' a "rocket asscent" to the surface. The commercial dive boat captain, seeing the victum on the surface dove in to rescue the victum who died of air embolisim. End of info. Should this prove to be true it is only the latest in a growing list in Ontaio's waters of novice divers dieing in Advanced Open Water training with only the barest minimum of experience. IMO that diver and others of similar experience level have no business in such a class, and the Certification Agencies that allow students to go directly from Open Water to Advanced should be held criminaly accountable.
