I'd be interesting in doing an informal poll of people mixing their own nitrox. No flames or moralizing please - I'm not interested in hearing what they told you in your PADI Nitrox Diver Course. Thought this might be interesting, since there seems to be a wide range of opinion on how dangerous, widespread or practical this is. 1) How long have you been doing it? 2) Approx. how many tankfuls have you done? 3) Do you use oxy cleaned tanks? 4) What kind of O2 do you use (welding, med, other) 5) Do you use hydrocarbon free air to complete the fill? 6) How do you air fill the tank (your own compressor, dive shop, etc.) 7) Do you use precision calibrated, standard dive/welding gages or other methods to obtain the right mix? 8) Do you always analyse the mix before using? 9) What kind of error do you notice between the desired and actual mix? 10) Have you encountered any problems in the mixing or use of your nitrox? 11) Do you know of any reliable cases of people hurt homebrewing nitrox (details appreciated if you have them)? Any descriptions of apparatus and technique would be appreciated too. Please post or reply by Email.
