Well, if you bring a good buddy with you or dive solo it's not too bad. We have coast guard stations all over the place up here and they do a good job of hauling away the carcases with minimal interruption of the diving schedule. Trips coming up are a day trip to the Eureka on the 17th. This wreck sank about 100 years ago with a supply of gear for a hardware store. I have retrieved many bottles (some with the contents intact and corked) marbles, crystals, etc. If you bring a scooter you can use it to blast the sand away and find goodies. 125' usually excellent vis. about 60 mi. out. Evening of the 18th a overnighter is leaving for the Mexicano (used to be known as the Equipoise) have not been there but understand it is intact and sitting upright in 140' and loaded with artifacts.(Lynnhaven DC 804-481-7949). On August 31- Sept 1 Pete Goutmann is chartering ML for a trip to the Billy Mitchell fleet and the San Delfino (200'-400' to stinkin deep for me). This might be one you would get a kick out of. (Petes phone- 412-649-1718). As far as strokism around here, for the most part serious divers loosely follow Horgartian setups. For example dual first stages with isolator manifold, second hung around neck and so forth. Things you might no like is all the crap we drag along for lobstering, spear fishing, wrecking etc. On the last trip I was the lone long-hoser. The only other dude with a long hose had stuffed it. As a novice fizz head, It's not a good idea to kabitz the old salt's equipment setup if I want to get invited along again. You will also see a single 120 main with a 30 pony as a standard setup. The guy who co-owns the ML is Mike Hillier, who, according to one of his employees, "has more dives than God", is a good guy and always has safety in mind. He does not deal with extraneous bullshit. Personally I don't have the dough to do a private charter, but will always try to join in on one if the dive is within my limitations. But if you do a charter you can choose whoevertheheck you want to be aboard. > This would be cool if we did it sans strokes. Deans runs a stroke-free >operation in Key West, but most of these operators are heavily laden with >stroke >when the leave port, from what I hear .- g
