Thanks, Mark L. for your comments.  As the catalyst for this particular thread
I appreciate the sincerity and wisdom of one not so bold :).

Insofar as the question stems from medical advice that is thirty years old the
first step for anyone is a NEW opinion.  Once we can determine the reasoning
behind the original advice then we can proceed with the decision making.
Personnally, I have the desire to dive.  It would make me a more complete
member of our Rescue Team and allow me to better empathize with our divers
knowing what they really are/have experienced.

You 'there are bold ones and old ones, but no bold old ones' is very well put.
