The following is mostly speculation. I don't have any specific documentation on the French DC55. If anyone has a tech manual on the DC55 I would be interested in trading for a copy! Anyway here is what I think I know about the DC55. It is described ( nonspecifically ) in Bennet and Elliot, Second Edition. The system works as follows: 1/5 of every breath is dumped into the water and replaced with a nitrox mixture (Fs). The resultant inspired O2 fraction (Fi) is given by ( according to B+E): Fi = Fs -(1-Fs)/rKP Where r is the fraction (1/5), K is a constant between 15 and 30 and P is the depth in atmospheres. One immediate problem with this sort of system is that Fi ( in theory ) rises with depth. Hence the depth operational range of any mixture is somewhat limited. Barrie
