> It is amazing what a working brain can do for you in this sport, and what the >penalty is for listening to strokes. Anybody out there hear an instructor tell >them how great a fast inflator is? Nope. On the other hand, power inflators were brand new technology when I took my Basic. We trained on them from day one. We didn't train on octopus rigs in Basic, although the instructors had them and had them ready anytime a student was going to be doing something with his regulator out of his mouth. We *DID* train on octopus rigs in Open Water. This was in 1975. I had a weird shop, I guess. The guy cared about safety, first, last, and all the time in between. He insisted on training us on the gear that he considered THE BEST, not necessarily the most expensive, but the BEST, and he really didn't seem to care what it cost HIM to keep that much first-rate gear on hand and in proper repair.
