1/4 turn was and still is a good idea if you think there is a chance
that someone checking your air doesn't know which way is on. If they
turn it a 1/4 turn and it stops turning they will either know that
that is what should happen or will comment that "it was only a 1/4
turn on" which should let you know that they can't tell right from left.
These people can also mash the valve seat by tightning a valve when they
think they are opening it.

If you turn your air on all the way somday someone will turn it off
for you while commenting that you forgot to turn it on. Remember,
we have at least two generations of idiots out there that have never
done anything as mechanical as changing sparkplugs in their car or
lawnmower. Are you one of them? :')

Remember - 1/4 turn back on the valve and 1/4 inch back on your buddy's
drysuit zipper.
