Dennis, no big deal, I thought you were ignoring the factual part and
assuming
I was making it up. I did not know you had been getting innvolved with the
Biomarine, I knew you had given up on the others.

Most people think that a rebreather would be the ideal cave instrument. Not
so. Ask Bill Gavin. He and I were talking about building a couple of units as
bailouts in the event we really got screwed up in a cave. We were going to run
them as front mounted, but he quit cave didving altogether. Remember, his job
is
rebreathers for the Navy, and he won't dive one in a cave (or anywhere else
but
a tank).

Olivier Isler uses a double semi rebreather with a third front mounted as
bailout . As yo ukow, he holds the distance record in a cave.

Stopne and King want to use the one Richie has to cave dive. Here is one of
the problems: if you had to bailall the way out to open circuit, you would
need
all of the that gas staged in the cave on the floor - a lot of gas. They would
lkely need a lot more gas than we do, as we can already do what they want to do
on open circuit. Based on the strokes these guys have as dviers, I would
estimat
e the ned to be as much as three or four times the gas we use, ast least this
is
their track record so far.

That of course assumes that they even konw they need to bai out, or are able
to sucdcesfuly bail out. They thingk theat the redudency of the MK5is all they
need, plus the stage bottles. I would suggest two things to thes gusy: one a
reality check - go cave diving, and two, get a pair of Nike's and get dwon to
our breathing rates. Guess what? There goes the need or the desire to use
rebreather

On the other hand, I would love to have one so I could go places like the
Bahamas without the tanks, or walk through the woods and jump in sinkholes to
look. For cave diving, then we need open circuit or a rig like Islers. That rig
Farb has is a beauty.
