>The bottom line is: >When you put your dollar on the counter, you are supposed to be purchasing >a service the retail operation >is reasonably qualified to provide. Furthermore, if the service includes >any equipment, it should be >reasonably maintained and ready for use. > >Likewise, you as the customer are tasked with following the instructions >of the retail operation and to >conduct yourself in a reasonable and safe manner. > >In Win's case, there happened to be a supposedly qualified person on board >the boat called THE CAPTAIN. You mean you've never heard any horror stories about, say, a General Contractor? Or a less-than-honest auto mechanic? The only forces protecting you from the less-skilled providers are the forces of the market place. Given that, it is entirely possible that a less-than-completely-skilled "captain" (note the quotes, note the case) will cheerfully take your money, usher you aboard, and then run your naive ass over. I personally have witnessed two British Columbian, cold water "captains" who should be shot. If you step on their boat, you're taking your life in THEIR hands. Good fucking luck. Being in business, taking your money, representing themselves as qualified, skilled, Cold Water, Four Season, Bad-To-The-Bone Dive Operators means nothing. It's still your ass, they could still be unqualified, and it's still up to you. --------- "huh?" -Jammer, 1992 ---------
