Rod, well said. I agree with you comepletely. Unfortunately, ther is a
contigent of strokes out there who teach "self sufficiency" in lieu of proper
rigging and teamwork. They also teach people to run for their lives with a
problem, rather than stay with their own redundency and help their buddy.

Also, again you are right on the money with this preoccupation with depth
and tekkiness - again this is what is being extolled out there, by the same
strokes.

Like you said, the safety comes first, getting to a wreck second. The wreck
will still be there.

We had a situation on a 430 wreck where we discovered that the surface
current was going north, and the bottom current below 150 was going south. We
we
drifting into the wreck with no line, planning to pull bags on ascent. However,
it became apparent to me that the boat would never find us with that current
complication. We stopped above the wreck where we could see it, and split into
two teams: one went up to tell the boat captain (me and Bill - the only ones
who
will surface from 400 feet to hold an important conversation and then go back
to
deco), and the others went to the wreck and had a great dive. We knew to
compensate for the current rip to find them no problem. I still have myself not
been able to get back to that wreck, but then it is still there.

These dives are a piece of cake when done right, but any dive is a
nightmare
when it is "every man for himself", or you inject a bad motivation or known
stroke into the equation.

Religous adherence to rule number one is the answer, and when dealing with
strokes, see the Bible, Proverbs 23, 9:

" Do not speak in the hearing of a fool
For he will dispise the wisdom of your words"

How many times have we proven that one?
