The CNS % clock values are based on the data from Oxygen and the Diver by Donald , on the NOAA limits and on the work of Bill Hamilton. they are not an exact science and are conservative. They also do not interput air breaks or total rest values. They are in theory a value where the AVERAGE population would be still safe once 100% of the clock has been used up. Beyond this point the AVERAGE diver would be entering a increased risk profile. The only problem is trying to define who the real average diver is and is he one today. Thus for most divers it is prudent to remain within these values. A second thing is that while the clock tracks increaes beyond norm in actual po2 and translates it to a % clock it does not recognize that at some value there is a limit on the po2 itself irregardless of the clock. This value of course varies significantly with the person and day. The clock calculates out to a po2 of 1.82 as 100% in one minute. at 10 minutes it is 1.7 it is 10% per minute. As you can see as the po2 increase it really has a drastic effect on the risk factor as related to the clock. It is not a perfect model but for the time being it is the best we have to offer and works for most. Of course as individuals each may address this issue based on a personal risk acceptance value. But for some of us we feel this is a good model to remain within. Tom mount At 01:54 AM 6/12/96 +0000, you wrote: >Ronnie, my email server just delivered this to me.
