Greetings fellow tech divers. This is just a message to introduce myself as I am new to your list. I have been an active diver for about 12 years of which the last 5 was tech diving. Both cave and trimix. I am resident in South Africa and belong to the South African Speleological Association (SASA), and is also a co-founder of the SASA-CDG (Cave Diving Group). As a member of a deprived little country on this lost continent, I was forced to develop my own decompression program based on the Buelmann (forgot the spelling) model. This program has been used very successfully over the past few years. My deepest dive to date was to 154m at altitude in a cave during February of this year, and was done in under two and a half hours. This short decompression was accomplished by using seven different gas mixtures including argox as a decompression gas. I am currently working on a diving project to a neighbouring country in an effort to extend two caves we last visited in '92. One of which is (used to be) the largest underground lake in the world i.e. +- 6.2Ha surface area. This is a very difficult cave to dive in as the water is about 60-80m below ground level. The entrance is highly restricted and virtually vertical all the way to the water. The other cave's water level is about 130m from the surface but is not as restricted. To give you an idea, the last time we dived there, it took about 8 hours to get four divers with their gear in, and about 11 hours the get them out again (excluding dive time). Glad to have found a place to share our gossip with. Regards Dietloff Giliomee
