Subject: Oceanic Chute2 BC and Wings???
From: jjackson@mh*.sb*.co* (Jeffrey Jackson)

Hi,

I would like to ask some advice from the list on wings and other bcs. I've
looked through the archive and have not found the answers to my questions.
Anyway...

What are your opinions regarding the purchase of a wings-style bc that will be
used with a single tank, but also be used for doubles sometime down the road
and then probably infrequently. I am specifically interested in comparing the
Dive-Rite or OMS systems with the new Oceanic Chute2 bc.

I've logged about 100 dives, all open water, some in very limited vis
(<3ft). I am Nitrox certified. I am probably a year or two from getting into
wreck diving and other advanced diving (ie doubles). I am not happy with the
vest-style bc I am currently using and like the configuration of the wings-type
bcs.

I have looked at the Dive-Rite harness/backplate and the Jr. wings, but am not
happy with the cost of this simple system. Furthermore, the Jr. wing is not
beefy enough for doubles, so I'd also have to get the Original Wings which are
two big for a single tank. I also can't believe DR charges $80 for the single
tank adapter (I'll make it myself with the instructions I found on this list).

So after looking at this DR stuff and feeling that I was getting too little for
the money, I took a look at the Oceanic Chute2 bc. I was impressed with the
fit, comfort and features. However, I am concerned about its ability as a
"technical" bc. It looks like Oceanic did everything right on this bc for tech
divers (with the exception of all those damn D-rings that you can't move). It
seems like the right bc for someone who is just getting into the technical
aspects of diving and will never get his "Wreck/Deep/Caver pro-Jock Diver-stud"
certification. :)

Thanks for any information you can pass along on my possible choices. My brain
is in sponge mode right now. I don't want to make a $400 mistake.

Jeff.
