Eric Lift bag deployment is a very basic skill that will be different in all areas of diving. I am assuming that when you are reffering to lift bag deployment you are reffering to using it as a stafey of decompression stop platform. I wont deal with specifics of lift bag deployment other than what you wrote in your original email because knowing this list, well you understand.... When it comes to running out line before you deploy the bag will really need a clear water environment. In Canada we use lift bags on every dive for everything from a decompression platfrom to let the surface support know were we are in decompression. One of our problems is that we are in current and minimal visibility. If you allow 50 feet of line to drop below you, that means you will have 40 feet of line that you cant see where it is going or what it's doing, you only have to be ten feet off the bottom not to see it... When you choose the lift bag system that you want to use, make sure it applies directly to your local area conditions ie: visibility, current and of course, is it really needed ect.... If you want give me an email at rcreight@di*.ca* and I can send you some more articles and information on lift bags and deployment techniques. Reg Creighton
