Improper mounting and deployment of backup lights is as dangerous
as
using the wrong backup light.
Backup lights should be mounted on the harness straps, with the
end
snapped to the shoulder d-ring, and simultaneously held at the loewr end
by a
retaining elastic. To deploy one, pull it out from the retainer, leaving
it
still clipped and turn it on, then unclip it. If you drop it, you can
see it.
Remember this is a piece of safety equipment used in the event of
a light
failure. You want it secured at two points, and hidden away on your
harness
strap which runs under you shoulder and out of the way of all other
gear.
Hanging a bouquette of backup lights from a tank d-ring is as
dangerous
and impractical as anything I have ever seen taught in cave diving. The
location
is s natural snagger of everything, they slap back and forth on the
tanks,
breaking the little fillamets in te bulbs, they are in the way of other
gear and
accsss to them is blocked by other gear, and it is impossible to
properly deploy
them.
This is the kind of careless slobbery I would like to see
discontinued ,
at least the teaching of it. Anyone who wants to be a slob or a stroke
should
have the right to do so, but they should not have the right to teach
others to
do so. - G
