i think that for cave divers who decompress in calm water, using pure O2 at the 20 foot stop is not a problem. in the open ocean, however, with it's swells, you can be at 20fsw, then at 10fsw, then at 30 fsw within a few moments. using pure O2 in this situation can become more hazardous. using 80/20 gives you 1.6ATA at 33fsw, so although you don't get the most efficeint offgassing, you cut down on the oxtox risk. i think is becoming the standard, and it's getting pushed onto you cavers. take care -glenn
