Whatever made you think differently?Scubapro is famous for this. They make a
fine product, but their policies are totally retail-oriented.I sold &
maintained scubapro regs for years, but i gave them up when i left the
business & could no longer obtain parts. For awhile,I bit the bullet & paid
to have the regs serviced, even tho I was qualified to do the service
myself.I gave that up when I saw one of the shop's techs attack my reg with
a vise & a 15" crescent wrench.
The biggest reason for an air-incompatible system from their standpoint
is one of liability. It's the same reason why hp & lp ports on regs are now
different sizes (they didnt used to be).A shop in California sold someone an
LP inflator hose,& the idiot screwed it into an HP port, where it promptly
blew up in his face. Both they & the manufacturer got sued, and lo & behold,we
now have different sized ports so the individual has to intentionally bypass
the incompatibility.
To a certain extent,it's been that way for years with commercial gas
mixtures;gases suitable for human consumption have a different fitting than
inert gases (like CO2 vs. O2 ).Personally,I think a dedicated nitrox reg is
a good idea;I'm just not sure I want the industry forcing it on me.
