My method is to add one to three 2-minute stops between the bottom and the first "require" deco stop. The first of these stops is at half the distance from the bottom to the first required stop. If there is a second, it's at half the remaining distance. If a third, it's again at half the remaining distance from the second. When I first started doing it, I was using an EDGE dive computer on air dives, so the computer automatically compensated for the theoretical "ongasing" during the deep stops (I had another series of safety factors over the remaining decompression time). When I started doing mixed gas dives, I calculated multi-level tables and programmed in the deep stops. Now with the rebreather, I have real-time computer deco calculations again, so the stops are automatically compensated for in the compartment model. > Or do the deep stops help overall offgassing > to the point where the shallower stops don't > need to be extended? This is probably the case, but I'm not willing to chance it just yet. Because of my DCI history, I don't like screwing around with deco, so I throw in additional safety factors whenever I can. I generally at 10-60 minutes on the shallow stops over and above what the compartment model calls for, just as additional safety margin. Since I've started doing the deep stops, I've backed-off on the extra shallow time, because I feel so healthy & alive after the dives. Aloha, Rich
