Subject: The pillorying of George on CIS

Jim,

I cc'ed this to cavers to since it affects both lists...

There are two separate issues here that you're melting together a
little too closely...

#1) Free speech - I agree wholeheartedly - no one should be censored.
It's too bad the sysops on compuserve buckled under.

I've received a few complaints about George on cavers too but, he's
NOT the only person I've received complaints about. I have NO
intention of censoring him, or anyone else, regardless of what they
say on diving. I cannot speak for what JR will do with techdiver
though.

#2) Authentication of postings - whether via PGP or some other
password scheme, the reduction of fake email is an important goal. I
AM working toward an authentication scheme that will remove the crazy
postings. It will be a little while before I put it in place and then
it will be phased in over a short period. More will be posted when
it's closer to implementation. I just don't want a discussion about
this to take place on techdiver OR cavers, whatever gets implemented
WILL be put in place when it's ready and it will be what *I* decide on
and can reasonably do, period. If you have any specific comments or
concerns about this send them to me personally, NOT on the list!!!
